Last Friday was a very auspicious day: First I found out that my painting Hanging in There (10×10, above) won an Award of Excellence at the Small, Smaller, Smallest show at the Federation Gallery. Very exciting news!!
Second I attended the much anticipated Eastside Culture Crawl in Vancouver. This annual event brings together artists from all media and is a popular family draw.
At 1000 Parker St, there are 125 artists, so on a cold rainy night you can see a great variety of art.
I reconnected with a professor of mine from my graduate school days Janet Strayer whose eclectic work varies from whimsical-imaginative to classical. Here is one of my favorites called Malaga.
Upstairs I loved the simple lines and muted colors of fellow Montreal-born Nathalie Denise Coulombe‘s work.
From watercolors to lush blackberries glistening on the walls of my friend Elizabeth Topham‘s studio…a real feast for the eyes!
Finally I loved the texture and intricacies of Karen Bagayawa’s beautiful mixed media works with tile grout, paint and wires.
It was great to meet new artists, see their work spaces and best of all, be surrounded by others who want to do the same!
What does your studio space look like?
